York's medieval core is largely closed to through traffic, so almost everything moves on the A1237 outer ring road or the A64. That concentrates our work onto a fairly predictable set of roads.

Roads we get called to around York

• A64 — the fast route towards Leeds one way and Scarborough the other.
• A1237 outer ring road — largely single carriageway with roundabouts, and often congested.
• A19 north and south.
• The park-and-ride sites ringing the city, and the station car parks.

Inside the walls

If your car is within the walls, be specific about where. Many streets are pedestrianised at certain hours, several are one-way, and some are simply too narrow to get a van alongside. It is not that we cannot reach you — it is that knowing in advance saves a wasted approach.

The A64

Sections of it are dual carriageway at national speed limit with limited refuge. If a tyre fails, get well onto the verge and out of the car. Do not attempt a wheel change on the offside there.

If you are heading to the coast for the day and already suspect a slow puncture, deal with it before you go — the roads out towards Scarborough have long gaps between sensible places to stop.
