Parking is the practical constraint

More than the roads, it is the parking that shapes these jobs. Cars are frequently packed nose to tail on a gradient with no room on the offside. Before we set off it helps enormously to know whether there is space beside the vehicle, and whether it is on a slope.

If there is genuinely no room to work safely, we will usually suggest moving it a short distance — at walking pace, on a flat tyre, that is normally acceptable for a few yards even though it is not ideal.

The A27 and the Downs

East and west of the city the A27 is fast and, in places, has limited refuge. If a tyre fails there, get onto the verge and up the bank rather than staying beside the carriageway.
